NEW PHOTOGRAPHY 2025:
LINES OF BELONGING
Marking the 40th anniversary of MoMA’s New Photography
series, Lines of Belonging showcases 13 international
artists and collectives from Johannesburg, Kathmandu,
New Orleans, and Mexico City. Their work expands
the boundaries of photography, interweaving personal
narratives with structural, environmental, and colonial
histories to explore the complexities of belonging.

Amid the rapid consumption of digital imagery and artificial
intelligence, New Photography 2025 champions slowness,
persistence, and care, offering a meaningful reflection on
photography’s evolving role in contemporary culture.
