NEW WORKS
IN THE MODERNA MUSEET
COLLECTION
Moderna Museet Malmö presents New Works in the
Collection, highlighting acquisitions and donations from
2024. This year, the museum enriched its holdings with 140
works by 53 artists, including 37 who were not previously
represented. Expanding its renowned collection of
international modern and contemporary art, the additions
include photography, installations, paintings, sculptures,
video works, graphic pieces, and mixed media.

Among the newly acquired pieces are Ghosts (2021) by
stiftelse.

exhibited at Moderna Museet. Some new works are already
on display, such as Maya Deren’s At Land (1944) in The
Underground Sky exhibition in Stockholm until January 11,
2026, and Kris Lemsalu’s River Rock Bird Sky (2022), part
of On the Absurd Drama That Is Also Life in Malmö until
February 25, 2025.

This spring, Lap-See Lam’s film installation Floating Sea Palace
(2024) will be shown in Stockholm in Fish Man, Fish Man,
alongside works by Kholod Hawash from May 10 to August 24,
2025. In October, the museum will open New Acquisitions and
the Art of Collecting, an exhibition exploring the museum’s
purchasing strategies and the broader practices of art
collecting. Running from October 11, 2025, to January 17, 2027,
it will showcase Swedish and international works recently
added to the collection. Moderna Museet houses over 6,000
paintings, sculptures, and installations, 25,000 watercolors,
drawings, and graphic works, 400 art videos and films, and
nearly 100,000 photographs, ensuring its position as one of
Europe’s leading institutions for modern and contemporary art.
