Distinctive Journey Through Art and Life
Professor Riitta Nelimarkka has consistently forged her own unique
path in the art world. No matter the technique or genre, be it
paintings, animated films, books, woolen reliefs, glassworks, or
photomontages, her distinctive approach always shines through. "My
art emerges from real life, reflecting its joys and sorrows, conflicts
and shocks, its normality and its chain of coincidences. I use parallels
drawn from literature, film, and music, but it’s always the personal
experience which wins the process." Over the years, Nelimarkka
has held major exhibitions at prestigious venues, including the
Amos Anderson Art Museum in Helsinki, Kunsthalle Helsinki, Hallwyl
Museum in Stockholm, Museo de la Nacion in Lima, the Russian
Academy of Arts’ Tsereteli Art Gallery in Moscow, EXPO 2000 in
Hannover, FIDM Museum in Los Angeles, and Maison de l’Europe in
Paris. Notably, Bonga Castle, an aristocratic building she renovated
with her husband Jaakko Seeck in Loviisa, houses a permanent
exhibition of approximately two hundred works (www.bonga.fi).
Nelimarkka’s academic journey is as impressive as her artistic one.
She studied painting in Paris, film in Stockholm, piano performance
