Renate Merzinger-Pleban's work is characterized by lines and
strokes that create form, space, and movement. Her art responds
to external stimuli, recreating the outer world through drawing and
painting. She reduces nature to landscapes, which become places
of longing where feelings and thoughts find temporary refuge.
For Merzinger-Pleban, landscapes are synonymous with nature
and indifference. Nature's arbitrariness and beauty evoke a feeling
of being at its mercy. Unlike with human subjects, which she
approaches through various sensual and intellectual means, nature
is depicted through her personal view of landscapes. Nature
remains unresponsive, and her art stands against its indifference.
She leaves dark and colored traces on light backgrounds, marking
her resistance and reflection.
